this idea was developed years ago as a form of
communing with nature and hunting in my native
Galicia.
After travelling around Europe as an emigrant (Switzerland,
France, Scotland, etc.), I finally settled in
Tenerife in 1988 between the municipal districts of
Arona and Adeje.
Between 1991 and
1999, I opened the second Paintball venue in Spain (Licence
in Arona).
RAT SHOOTING came about some five years ago, by applying
some of the rules of professional Paintball and because
common sense led me to realise just how this intelligent and
dangerous rodent, the Rat, was proliferating out of control,
causing the focus point for the transmission of disease,
damaging electrical installations and crops. Reliable
information gathered from environmental experts, vets and
ecologists shows that deliberate campaigns to poison rats,
etc. is insufficient and in some cases unadvisable, not to
mention prohibitively expensive for the public coffers.
I thought that the only solution was to apply the system
that unfortunately has driven many species to the brink of
extinction, either for gain or for fun.
The application of these two concepts seriously and to the
right extent can provide us with an effective control of
this rodent. The rat has the characteristics and the
differences of other species of its habitat, breeding
capacity, etc. that guarantee the success of an enterprise
of this kind, where the results will be seen during the
first year by keeping a register of animals exterminated,
and it will also provide direct and indirect jobs.
Unlike other forms of competition shooting with live
trophies, this is a sport that can be practised at
reasonable prices, within the reach of anyone wishing to
practise this new sport.
